This weekend I'm packing up the family and sewing kit and heading back to the beloved London Town. I fell in love with London, its style and its people from the very first time I arrived. Meeting my fellow bee's was daunting and I felt a little like a wee fish in a big pond! We all headed out for dinner together on the first night and it was all sewing chat - I was living the dream :)
I cannot wait to see all my Bee's again, meet all the stitching enthusiasts and droll over all the fabulous fabrics on offer.
If you are a fan of BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee (GBSB) then mark your diary for the 21st - 24th September as The GBSB Live event comes to Excel, London. With hundreds of workshops and demonstrations taking place this weekend, there is something for every level of stitcher. I cannot wait for this event - I’m like a kid at Christmas.
Over on the GBSB Facebook page they have been interviewing judges Patrick and Esme ahead of the event and I have to say, once I heard their voices again it made me quite nervous. It took me right back to the judging line up and I actually felt my stomach turn slightly at the thought of them scrutinising my work. At least at this event we have no timed challenges or alteration tasks to fret about. I am really looking forward to meeting up with my sewing bee buddies once again but I’m also looking forward to seeing the bee’s from previous episodes. I was a massive fan of The GBSB right from series one and it was the previous contestants that inspired me to enter Series 4. I used to sit with a pen and paper jotting down sewing terms and techniques that I hadn't heard before. I would then search these online and practice until I had mastered the skill. The TV show is such an inspiration for people who want to take up sewing or expand their skill set.
At the show I will be taking two workshops; making a memory bear and adding a peplum to a skirt or top. At the time of writing the memory bear workshop is sold out however, there are a few places left on the peplum masterclass. On the Sunday I will also be taking a demonstration in Super Theatre which I am really looking forward to. One of the highlights of the event for me will be the Vogue Fashion Show. I love to see patterns come to life and the Vogue pattern range is simply stunning.
Anyone coming along to the show can expect lots of inspiration, ideas and a fabulous day out. With hundreds of exhibitors selling everything from fabrics to dress dummies and thimbles to sewing machines you will be in crafty heaven. A selection of our garments from the show including both my garments of the week will be exhibited at the event so visitors can have a wee nosey and judge for themselves. Patrick and Esme will also be taking to the stage to hold their very own alteration challenge for the public - if you fancy yourself as a future sewing bee contestant then this is a great opportunity to practice under pressure.
I am flying over from Belfast on the Friday evening and will attending the event on Saturday and Sunday. Myself, Tracey and Jade are staying together in an apartment which will be great craic - it’ll be just like our filming days. I am also taking the crew with me - my husband, baby Luke, Mother and Mother In Law. It really will be a family break away! If there is one sewing event you attend this year then this is it!
If you are coming along make sure to pop over and say hello :)
